Soviet Ground Effect Vehicle A-90 “Orlyonok”

The A-90 Orlyonok was an amazing mix of boat and airplane developed in secret by the Soviet military. The A-90 is one of the largest ground effect vehicles ever made. This A-90 is now on display in Moscow.

Over 200 wildfires still raging in Russia

Slightly over 200 wildfires are still raging in European Russia on an area of 6,391 hectares, although their number has dropped by 36 in the past twenty-four hours, the Emergencies Ministry said on Sunday.

Power blackout paralyzes St. Petersburg

Some 30 commuter and long-distance trains were delayed, while many passengers on St. Petersburg’s subway – the world’s deepest – had to walk along the tunnels and up the escalators to get out.

Traffic lights were off on Nevsky Prospekt, the city’s central avenue, causing traffic jams. Almost half of the city, which has a population of 4.5 million, was left without water supplies.

Russia lifts fire emergency in three regions

Russia on Friday reported further success in containing the fires that ravaged the country for weeks as temperatures in Moscow plunged to 10 degrees Celsius, following its worst ever heatwave.
